Remove calluses? This way you get silky soft feet again!

Suffering from a throbbing pain in your feet after a long day? And does it feel like your toe is being crushed against the side of your shoes? Then calluses could be the annoying culprit. Everyone suffers from calluses at some point. Calluses on your toes, in particular, are often unavoidable, but how can you remove and prevent calluses? We give you the definitive answer!

What is a callus, actually?

The skin consists of multiple layers that produce new skin cells every day. During the daily hustle and bustle, we cover quite a few steps. And even when we aren't walking? Our feet are still squeezed into shoes that are sometimes too tight. To protect the feet, the skin produces extra cells in known pressure and pinching spots, such as the soles, heels, or the sides of the toes. You can recognize this accumulation of cells by its yellowish-white color. Better known as calluses.

A little bit of callus is actually not a problem. It is a normal reaction of the skin to protect us against damage. As soon as calluses on the toes look unsightly or become painful, you may want to consider treating or removing them with the right foot care.

Different types of calluses

Removing all calluses from your feet is therefore unnecessary. However, if you do not take good care of your feet and do not keep up with the calluses, they can start to feel painful and even burning. We explain which "types of calluses" require action.

  1. Excess callus: This is when the thickening of the skin begins to press down on the other skin layers. The skin's cell production works overtime, causing the callus layer on your toes and feet to become increasingly thick. Your shoes start to pinch and walking becomes painful. This callus layer can eventually tear. Cracks develop, giving bacteria and viruses free rein, with all the associated consequences.
  2. Calluses: Calluses on the toes are particularly common. In this case, pieces of callus have grown attached to your joint.

Removing calluses

Removing calluses can sometimes be quite difficult. Do you suffer from a callus or an extreme amount of callus, and therefore excess callus? In that case, we advise you to consult your GP or opt for a professional pedicure treatment.

In less extreme cases, you can of course remove calluses yourself. To remove calluses on your toes and feet, you need the tools listed below:

  • Basin with lukewarm water
  • Soda
  • Glass Pedicure File

Placing your feet in lukewarm water with some baking soda softens the hard skin. From that moment on, removing calluses is child's play. Use the Glass Pedicure File. This fine foot file has a coarse and a fine side. The coarse side removes calluses and the fine side polishes your feet for a beautiful and well-groomed end result.

Tip 1: Avoid tight shoes

Heels are also not recommended if you suffer from calluses. The pressure and friction increase blood flow and thus the production of your skin cells. So, alternate heels with sandals or nice sneakers. An arch support can also offer a solution. This type of insole distributes the pressure on your feet to prevent the buildup of calluses in one spot.

Tip 2: Take a foot bath regularly

A foot bath is a perfect way to care for your feet. By keeping the skin soft, you can quickly and easily remove calluses.Try the Herome Revitalizing Foot Tablets to offer your feet wonderful care.
